Action Movie Kid DreamWorks Animator Turns Son into Superhero

Daniel Hashimoto, an After Effects artist for DreamWorks, used his video talent to make his son's playtime come alive — whether it's using Batman's grappling hook or fearlessly jumping from couch to couch to avoid the lava in their living room.

Action Movie Kid could deserve a spot on the Justice League. And his dad just might be father of the year.
Daniel Hashimoto, a DreamWorks animator based in Los Angeles, used his skills to turn his son into a superhero with unfathomably cool powers and gadgets in a series of videos called "Action Movie Kid."
"I made them mostly because he is really funny and imaginative," Hashimoto told the Daily News. "James doesn't watch TV or movies very much. We play tons of games with him throughout the day."

The clips show little James, 3, shift his Lego aircraft into hyperdrive, disappear into a puddle, transform a McDonald's PlayPlace into a rocket and enter the Matrix.

"I think they are a lot of fun," mother Mandy Richardville told The News. "It's so cute watching Hashi film James while he's playing around. Then he goes and turns it to magic later."
One video of James wielding a lightsaber has already garnered more than 180,000 views on YouTube.
Hashimoto has been an After Effects artist with DreamWorks Animation for about a decade. He's worked on "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Kung Fu Panda 2."
But he never expected a journalist from New York to call about the videos or for them to become so popular.
"It's humbling and I'm excited that a little hobby I have is enjoyable to other people," he said.
Hashimoto first thought to turn James into a hero after he stood up in the kitchen and pretended to be Iron Man, blasting everything in the room.
