Teenager Eliminated From Beauty Pageant For Being A MUM

Pride and joy: Dhakirah with daughter Sapphire
When Latifah Salim, 22, decided to enter the Miss Birmingham beauty contest, sister Dhakirah went along to offer moral support.
Dhakirah, 19, then also found herself in the competition - but not for long.
While Latifah made it through to the next round, Dhakirah did not - but the decision was not made on looks, reports the Birmingham Mail.
The reason for her failure? She is a single mum - and mums are banned from Miss Birmingham.

Although Dhakirah says she was encouraged to enter the contest, she fell foul of the small print.
The disappointed mum, who is the pride of her three-year-old daughter Sapphire, blasted the contest’s “old-fashioned and discriminatory” rules.
“I feel betrayed,” she said.
“I went along to support Latifah in her interview round, and made a spontaneous decision to enter the competition.
“They allowed me to apply. I was told on the day that being a mother shouldn’t be an issue, and that I could enter.
“Then to be told I’m not eligible is confusing and upsetting.
“This rule sends out the message that there’s no beauty in women after birth and that young mums can’t be good role models.
“I think that’s discrimination towards women with babies.”
