Will Inauguration of 8th National Assemby Still hold ? As a combination of Nigerian Security Team Barricaded the Gate - Vangurd

ABUJA – Feelers from around the National Assembly, Abuja at the moment indicate that the inauguration of 8th National Assembly may likely be put on hold until further notice.
As a combination of Nigerian security team comprising police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC barricaded the gate of the National Assembly, literally preventing everyone including Staff of the Assembly, Journalists, guests even members- elect from assessing the building.

The reasons for this could be connected to the acrimony and bitterness trailing the candidacies of the contestants for the offices of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

At least, four persons are angling for the positions.
These included Senators Bukola Saraki from Kwara State and Ahmed Lawan from Yobe State.
Also, Hons. Yakubu Dogara from Bauchi State and Femi Gbajabiamila from Lagos State are squaring up for the Speakership of the House.
The All Progressives Congress, APC had in a mock election on Saturday at the International Confrence Center, ICC, Abuja adopted Lawan and Gbajabiamila as candidates for Senate president and Speaker of the House.
But this was to the surprise and dissatisfaction of most of the incoming members elected on the party’s platform especially those supporting the candidacies of Saraki and Dogara.
Every effort to prevent the duo from participating in the election of the presiding officers including a meeting with the Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo last night have failed.
Meanwhile, President Mohammadu Buhari is due for a meeting with the incoming lawmakers any moment from now at ICC.
The statement by the APC reads
“The President and Commander-in -chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari will address all Senators and House of Representatives elect of the All Progressives Congress at 9 am this morning Tuesday the 9th of June at the International Conference Centre Abuja.
All concerned must endeavour to attend this meeting”
The election into the offices is today but it appears the inauguration would not hold as a combination of Nigerian security team comprising police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has barricaded the gate of the National Assembly, literally preventing everyone including Staff of the Assembly, Journalists, guests even members- elect from assessing the building.
When asked by our correspondent, a policeman said they are awaiting orders from “above”.
The atmosphere within the National assembly is seriously tense.
