Abubakar Audu, a former governor of Kogi State from 1999 to 2003, has been nominated to run for governor again under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in November.
The APC campaign slogan is “change” and the president and their national leader Muhammadu Buhari has been posturing as an anti-corruption campaigner.
However, Audu was being prosecuted by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for defrauding his state of 11bn naira (about $55m) when he was governor.
11bn naira is a lot of “change” for Audu, but little changed for the people of Kogi when he was governor, while a lot changed for him.
Audu bought a mansion for $1.7m at 12301 Glen Road, Potomac, Maryland in the United States months after he became governor.

His wife Aisha accused him of physical assault in a District Court in Montgomery County in 2010. And he was also accused of ordering a security aide to attack an EFCC official in Nigeria.
