Transgender Man Shocked To Find Out “Bloated Tummy” Was Actually 21 Weeks Pregnancy

Everyone’s heard the story of the lady who think she’s put on a bit of weight, and then, woahhh a baby pops out and it’s all a bit of a surprise. But then it makes a great “how I came into the world story” for when baby is a grown-up down the pub.
A little less common however, is Kayden Coleman and husband Elijah’s story. After living as a man for nearly a decade, 29-year-old Kayden went to the doctors as he’d been piling on the pounds and was experiencing back pain.

Fully in the transitioning process, Kayden had been on testosterone jabs for five years, grown facial hair and was about to have a double mastectomy, so was incredibly shocked to discover his beer belly was actually a baby bump.

Before the mastectomy procedure, patients have to come off their hormones, which is when Kayden fell pregnant:
“To have a mastectomy you have to be off hormones for six weeks… I never thought about getting pregnant. Because of the male hormones, I didn’t think it was a possibility. It was definitely a surprise.”
Already 21-weeks-pregnant when they found out, the couple quickly got married before the baby was due and started to  prepare for parenthood. The toughest part – telling Elijah’s family and friends about the little one’s arrival, as they didn’t know Kayden was trans:
“When we found out Kayden was pregnant we knew we had to tell them. How could we explain the baby when she popped up after a couple of months?”
Kayden says he felt supported by hospital staff during the difficult birth – labour lasted for four long days – but that he did feel a bit like a “medical experiment”. When he finally gave birth to his daughter, he says he was still completely in shock:
“Even when I first held her it hadn’t sunk in that she was mine, so I didn’t really feel much. But I knew things would never be the same again. I was so happy to finally see her face.”

The couple say baby Azaelia is growing up to be an “awesome kid”, and they have decided they’ll explain the real story to her when she’s five years old. Until then she calls Kayden “Daddy” and Elijah “Poppy”.
Kayden says:
“Kids are a lot more understanding and receptive than adults. But I don’t plan on making a big deal out of it. I’ve never made a big deal out of it when telling anyone, because to me it’s not a big deal. As long as Azaelia is loved and cared for, I doubt she’ll care.”
What an amazing story.
