Lagos-based shoe maker Preppy Royale gained the attention of MMG Record label boss, the rapper Rick Ross, after he shared a sample of his work, a palm sandals he called ‘Kriss Kross’. The photo featured Ross’ Belaire Rose wine.
On Instagram, Preppy Royale tagged the rap guru, and he got a response.
“Future bright,” Rick Ross commented on the post and also ‘liked’ the photo.
“Even when they set road blocks, they can’t stop PR now,” the excited shoemaker said, adding, “Let’s win more.”

This brings to mind Nigeria’s Laolu Sebanjo who has been recognised and chosen to design Nike’s new kicks. Sebanjo’s designs are heavily inspired by his Yoruba Heritage.
